We stumbled across Willie B Grand in San Antonio, Texas, in August of 2000. Bred by Terreau Paint Horses of Kansas City, Missouri, he started his show career by winning the Mo-Kan Futurity as a weanling. After which, he was sold to Stan and Mary Ann Ferguson of San Antonio, to become the building block of their Paint Horse program.

After almost losing Willie B Grand to colic, Stan promised the copper stallion with the big heart, that if he survived, all he would have to do is breed mares. Which is exactly what he has done for the last 14 years!

But, as many people know, horses are much like potato chips . . . you can't stop at one! The next thing Stan & Mary Ann knew, they had 3 stallions! Choosing to downsize their program, they reluctantly parted with their oldest friend. As Stan said, "He's just too good a horse to stand around."

Needless to say, Kevin & I were thrilled at the opportunity to own such a splendid example of a true Quarter Horse with chrome! Little did we know of just how great a sire he was until we saw his first World Champion in September's edition of the Paint Horse Journal!

As we have contacted the owners of his foals, we continue to hear the same message . . . they have such kind, and willing dispositions. You can compete with them at a national level, and then you can turn around and put your kids on them!

This is easily evidenced by the attitude of Willie B Grand when you see him. He always greets you with his ears forward, looking for that kind word, or gentle pat. He may get bored . . . as we found out when trying to take his picture, but he rarely, if ever, gets angry.

Heart, the spirit of the soul, or the actual physical size, is what makes a good horse, a great horse!! There is a theory called the X-factor which mentions the Leo bloodline and how it was influenced by this speculation. Of course, if you ever read the stories about Leo, his sweet disposition, his competitive fearlessness as well as his courage, it's easy to see why he was a horse with a big heart!

In our opinion, Willie B Grand is the best chrome plated Leo you will find . . .
